Utilizing Semi-Passive RFID Tags for Monitoring the Condition of Fresh Produce in Transit

Chris Hook has over 20 years experience in the creation, development and application of RFID products and systems. He has worked for both very large companies, and small, entrepreneurial ventures.

 

He was responsible for some of the pioneering RFID work conducted by Eureka Systems in England, at that time a subsidiary of Sensormatic Corporation, applying RFID in diverse market segments such as animals, personnel and automated manufacturing.

 

Chris is credited as being inventor of the first RFID system to achieve simultaneous identification of tags - many tags being identified by one reader effectively at the same time - considerably extending the utility of RFID systems.

 

Working for Texas Instruments, Chris led the team that created Tag-it?"smart label" technology, and this innovation was recognised by industry analysts Frost & Sullivan by the award of their Market Engineering Leadership Award in 1997.

 

At Symbol Technologies, Chris worked in the company's corporate business development team, and was responsible for RFID developments.

 

At Zebra Technologies, Chris was responsible for RFID market development and brought Zebra prominent market recognition as RFID thought leaders.

 

During his varied career, Chris has filed numerous patents on RFID technologies and systems, wireless LANs and real-time location systems.

 

In recognition to his outstanding contributions to the automatic data capture industry, in September 2004 Chris was elected to the "AIDC100", which is a group of the top 100 industry thought leaders and practitioners.

 

Chris joined Deloitte Consulting in September 2004, and co-leads the Wireless & Sensor Solutions team. He holds a seat on the Advisory Board of the RFID Research Center at the University of Arkansas.
