Speaker Biography

Arthur J. Frank is a Principal Scientist in the Chemical and Biosciences Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He earned his doctoral degree (1975) in Physical Chemistry from the University of Florida and conducted postdoctoral research at the Han-Meitner-Institute in Berlin (1975-1976) and the University of California at Berkeley (1976-1978). He joined NREL, formerly known as the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), in 1978. Dr. Frank's research interests cover (1) sensitized nanostructured solar cells, (2) charge transport and recombination dynamics, (3) chemically modified electrode surfaces, (4) photoelectrochemical water splitting, and (5) Li batteries. Dr. Frank has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters, has edited 1 symposium volume, and holds 5 U.S. patents. He has organized and chaired several U.S. and international symposia. He has chaired or served on several DOE review panels and served as a member of the U.S. DOE Visiting Team under the U.S.-Israel Scientific Cooperation Agreement and as a delegate to the International Energy Agency Executive Conference.
