Presentation Summary

  • Polymer-base solar cell device operation and materials challenges.
  • The importance of charge-transport for making highly efficient polymer-based solar cells.
  • The potential for more ordered polymers to absorb light and transport charge in solar cells.

Speaker Biography

Alex Mayer received a BS in Physics and Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University in 2001 and a PhD from Cornell University in 2006. His thesis was on real-time growth studies of the organic semiconductor pentacene with applications to transistors and solar cells. His postdoctoral work has focused on the morphological mechanisms behind charge transport in polymer-based solar cells using synchrotron x-rays.

Company Profile

Stanford University is located between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of Silicon Valley, and is recognized as one of the world's leading research and teaching institutions. Almost 7000 undergraduates and 8000 graduate students are engaged in studies over roughly 60 majors and myriads of research projects.
